DIY: Film Casing Ideas.

Monday, September 30, 2013
As you know, I've been going through a ton of film since developing my own film photographs. I have been saving the film cases after I take the negatives out and I had an idea of a DIY I've been wanting to try. Well, I'm still not close to having enough cases, but I got an idea for a quick DIY that anyone can do. Of course, not everyone is going to have left over film casings, but if you happen to find one or if you get film developed, ask the assistant to give you the case back, they just throw them away afterwards anyway.
All you have to do is heat up a sewing needle and make two holes at the top of the film case.
That's it.

Then feed the string through the two holes and you're all set. This seems like a pretty pointless post because it's so easy and takes minimal effort or thought, so I figured I'd take it a step further. If you're like me and don't typically wear jewelry, I have another idea. Instead of feeding it through with string, why not put it on your car keys? I am not the kind of person that likes a ton of things hanging on my keychain, but I think this adds a nice touch to it and keeps your car keys light. The case weighs nothing.

Also, here's a sample shot of what the necklace would look like if you were to go that route:

please excuse my derpy face. this is the only shot today that Kryss was successful in getting. I am so not photogenic.
I actually really like how this came out. I'm not a fan of wearing jewelry, but I love having this around my neck to remind me of my passion!

  1. that's a neat idea! Never even thought of it. Sometimes the film case is especially cool (Lomo film, usually).
