On being a male blogger.

meTo anyone that browses blogs or goes onto blog following sites like Bloglovin' can clearly see, male bloggers are scarce. Today, blogging has become a playground for ladies that are fashion savvy or women who enjoy DIY and cooking tutorials. We see mothers who document their lives to look back on when their children have grown up. I'm not saying anything negative about these woman, they inspire me like crazy. I enjoy browsing these blogs, even though they don't always relate to me. Actually, they rarely relate to me unless they deal with photography. I still look at these blogs because these people are so inspiring and seem like wonderful people.
The thing that I guess is hard for me to accept is that there are so few male bloggers out there and even when you find one, they don't blog as much. Colby Kern is my favorite male blogger, but as you see.. he doesn't update as much as he should (hint hint!) I can only name a few other guys that blog, but it's sad to see it's so minimal. It's hard being a male blogger, too.
I suppose if I were more into cooking or even somewhat competent in the world of fashion, I could do okay for myself. I have my photography and design to fall back on, but I feel like it's harder to draw an audience in if you're a male than a female. There are so many other female bloggers that relate easier and can shoot back ideas and bounce off inspiration from each other. I don't mean to say I'm only blogging for the audience, but when it comes down to it, most people blog to get comments and to get attention. I don't mean attention in a negative way, either. I just mean we all want our blogs and writing to be recognized by others. I would be lying if I said I was blogging only for myself. I know I should probably think "write just for yourself", which I do, but I also have in mind the audience that may stumble upon my writings. In all honesty, the big reason why I blog is to inspire others. I want to document my life and everything else, just like other bloggers, but I also want people to stumble upon my blog and leave it feeling a little spark of inspiration.
Again, I am more than okay with the female bloggers who are currently writing, I have love for each and every one that blogs. I have made some amazing friendships with people who blog that are females. I guess it's just hard sometimes to know you're one of the very limited males who blog. For me, I have a hard time blogging because I still get that uncomfortable feeling of "people may judge you for being this open", you know, with societies ridiculous stigma on men that share feelings and whatnot. Eff that.
Who knows, I can be that token homosexual that all women are apparently swarmed to and want to take on shopping trips. We'll get Starbucks and talk about the latest gossip in People magazine. I'll respond to their gossip with "Oh my God, you bitch!" and "Slut!" and playfully slap their arm.
Anyway, back on topic.
I suppose it's not all that bad with a limited number of male bloggers. I stand out more, being a lone wolf in the blogging world. My views can be different from other bloggers, men and women aren't the same; and I don't mean that in a sexist way. Hell, most female bloggers are much smarter and much more articulate than I am.
This wasn't meant to be a "poor me" post or for anyone to think I'm portraying myself as some kind of loner. I just believe females have dominated the blogging world (and kicked some major ass with it! Go ladies!) and it's hard to find male bloggers. When it comes down to it, it'd be nice to see more male bloggers, but then it would take the spotlight off me (just kidding!)
Either way, I can't complain. Blogging has been such an amazing experience and I have met some amazing and inspiring people that I am lucky to call my friends.
In the end, it just comes down to girls rule and boys drool.

  1. Do you follow Danny Brito at all? Brilliant artist and (sometimes) blogger. He also runs this super rad Tumblr called Man-I-Cute.

PS. Excited to find your blog. xoxo
